MateFate ("we", "us") is an app for meeting people nearby and starting conversations. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the MateFate app, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. If you have questions, email us at [email protected].
When you register with email, we collect your email address and a password. Passwords are stored only in hashed form. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive an account identifier and the email address that Apple or Google shares with us. If you sign in with Apple, we also keep a token that lets us revoke MateFate's access to your Apple ID when you delete your account.
Your nickname, date of birth, gender, who you would like to meet, "About Me" text, photos, and your country and city. You can also add your height and choose options such as interests, languages, occupation, education and what you are looking for. You choose what to put in your profile and can change most of it at any time in the app. Your date of birth and gender cannot be changed after setup. We also store the language you use the app in, so notifications and emails reach you in that language, and your notification settings.
If you allow location access, the app reads your device's location while you are using it. Before we store it, we round it to roughly 1 km. We use it to show you people and moments nearby, and to show how far away other people are. Other users only ever see your city and your distance in whole kilometres, never your coordinates. You can turn off location access in your device settings at any time; we then stop updating your location.
The hellos and messages you send, including photos you send in a conversation, and which conversations you have read. The people you like and the matches you make. When you open someone's profile, we record that you visited it, when, and how many times. We also keep the people you block and the reports you submit, and we record when you were last active.
The moments you post (text, up to 9 photos and your city), and the moments you like and comment on.
If you verify your profile, you take a selfie in the app while copying a pose we ask for. We store the selfie privately, and our moderation team compares it with your profile photos. Only you and our moderation team can see it.
If you allow notifications, we store a push token for your device. It is used only to deliver MateFate notifications, such as new messages and hellos, likes and matches, comments on your moments and the result of your photo verification. You can turn most of them off in the app's settings.
If you subscribe to MateFate Pro or pay the one-time photo verification fee, the payment is handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We and our subscription service provider, RevenueCat, receive the details needed to provide what you bought: the product, purchase and expiry dates, the store and transaction identifiers. We never receive your card or payment details.
Our hosting and service providers keep standard logs, such as IP addresses, request times and device or app versions, for security and troubleshooting. If the app crashes, it sends a crash report to Firebase Crashlytics with your device model, operating system and app version, technical details of the error and your MateFate user ID, so we can find and fix the problem.
We do not collect your contacts or phone number, we do not show ads, and we do not use advertising or cross-app tracking tools.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for advertising.
Other users cannot see your email address, your date of birth, your exact location, your verification selfie or your purchases (other than the VIP badge).
We share information only with service providers that help us run MateFate, and only for that purpose:
We may also disclose information when required by law, or when necessary to protect the safety of our users or others. For example, we report child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and relevant authorities. If MateFate is involved in a merger or acquisition, information may be transferred as part of that transaction under this policy.
We keep your information while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app under Profile → Settings → Delete account (see Delete your account). Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, photos, location, conversations and messages including photos sent in them (for both participants), moments, comments and likes, likes, matches and profile visits, blocks, verification selfies, push tokens and subscription status. If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke MateFate's access to your Apple ID.
Some information is kept after deletion:
Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. Cancel it in your App Store or Google Play account settings.
Our servers are in Singapore, and our service providers may process information in other countries, including the United States. When information is transferred, we rely on the safeguards our providers offer, such as standard contractual clauses, to protect it.
Information is encrypted in transit, and access to it is restricted. Other users can only see the information described above. Photos sent in conversations are stored privately and can only be opened by the people in that conversation, and verification selfies only by you and our moderation team. Only a small team can access moderation tools, and they cannot read your conversations, except the messages attached to a report. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
MateFate is only for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a user is under 18, we delete their account.
We may update this policy. When we make significant changes, we will tell you in the app before they take effect. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
